Our mission is to save & improve the lives of others in any way we can, which is why we are so proud to follow & promote the amazing progress of the Mavis Nye Foundation and her fight against Mesothelioma.
A lady on the bravest of missions and fighting the bravest of fights, we thought it was time for a recap.
V-TUF proudly announced back in February of this year that we would do all we could to support and promote the Mavis Nye foundation, along with Mavis herself as a V-TUF ambassador.
What is Mesothelioma and how is it caused?
In short, Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that usually affects the layers of tissue in the lungs, and if you are interested to find out more in depth facts on the issue then be sure to check out Cancer Research UK’s extensive resources.
After much research into the disease and a better understanding of Mesothelioma, it is now attributed most often to exposure to asbestos fibres in a working environment.
The Mavis Nye Foundation
Mavis hails from Kent and in 2009 was given the devastating Mesothelioma diagnosis, a type of cancer associated with exposure to asbestos fibres. Having never worked directly in construction and never knowingly come into direct contact with asbestos, this heart-breaking news shook both Mavis and her husband Ray.
Over the long and gruelling 7 years to follow, Mavis tried and tested all the treatments available and in 2016 doctors reported a complete response, giving her the all clear. Now, through the Mavis Nye foundation and Mavis’ sheer determination, she campaigns to raise awareness of the disease and the causes that have been ignored for so long.
An update since the original post
Since the original post above from February this year, Mavis received the shocking news in April that there were some new lesions found during a routine check up, meaning she was no longer clear of the Mesothelioma. Mavis is trialling a new drug and still marching on relentlessly to provide education and reform on the issues of asbestos and lung disease through her foundation, we are so proud to watch this grow day after day.
You can read more about Mavis and her journey at the Mavis Nye Foundation website, here.
Until next time,
The V-TUF Family
